Founder and Lead Tutor
I am a graduate of Stanford and Harvard. While I studied engineering and business, I have enjoyed Math since grade school when I was selected for an experimental program in Symbolic Logic conducted by Stanford’s Dr. Patrick Suppes, which formed the basis for Stanford’s Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) and then Stanford’s Online High School.
I have been tutoring all levels of Math in both courses and standardized tests for the past 12 years, from Elementary Math to Calculus, SSAT to GRE/GMAT, and Military ASVAB and Officer tests. My tutoring platform has earned the 3rd highest number of hours tutored in the nation in both 2020 and now 2021.
I have had the privilege of working with students as young as 5 and as young as 88. My students, including those who did not start out believing they were “good at Math,” have excelled in the following ways:
-
Finishing 7th grade Pre-Algebra as young as 8
-
Completing Honors Precalculus as young as 11
-
Earning A+100% in Geometry at Stanford’s highly rigorous Online High School
-
Taking Calculus 5 at age 14 at junior college while concurrently enrolled in high school
-
Achieving a 9-8-9 on the OAR/ASTB-E and being offered the position of a Navy Pilot
-
Increasing ASVAB score from 28 to 50 in less than 3 weeks
-
Successfully completing the CSET (California Subject Examinations for Teachers) exam and overcoming a long-term condition of dyscalculia
-
Achieving a perfect 800 on the SAT Math section and increasing SAT Math score from 500s to 700s in just a couple of sessions
-
Increasing GRE Math score by 6 points (one student did so in 6 lessons and the other did so in less than 2 weeks)
-
Scoring a 94 on the ASVAB and increasing OAR score by 8 points in 5 sessions
I believe that establishing a strong foundation in Math is essential for a student’s future success and confidence – in high school, in college and beyond in their careers. And I believe that every student has the potential to be successful with Math. Creative approaches to Mathematics education that work well for gifted students also help students of all levels and backgrounds to succeed in Math.
I have worked with many homeschooled students who have succeeded to the point of being admitted to top universities. Many of these were able to follow an accelerated path, especially in Mathematics, due to the individual attention and encouragement to believe that their progress can know no limits. One was admitted to UC Berkeley at 15, graduated at 17 and got her masters in applied mathematics at 19. I understand the special opportunity that homeschooling offers and know how to equip and inspire the independent learner.
My philosophy is that mathematics provides a critical foundation for other learning. Young people can grasp advanced concepts early on. Adult students can rebuild and develop their tools, skills, and understanding. Each student is unique in their background and mindset, and deserves a tailored approach.
